John was born in Chester and continues to live there to this day, although his lifetime love of Liverpool Football Club hampers his loyalty to Chester sometimes!
After studying for A levels at St David’s High School in Saltney, John’s culinary career began as he ventured into the hospitality sector as an Apprentice Chef within various local restaurants and hotels.
Inspired by a love of good food, local produce and exceptional presentation, John sought opportunities to further develop his own creativity, gaining valuable experience, until he found his niche at a successful Italian restaurant in the city centre where he remained for 20 years, rising through the ranks to become Head Chef.
John joined Boughton Hall Retirement Village in 2010 to spearhead the new catering function and has elevated the cuisine to its current high standards. In his current role of Executive Chef, John also oversees the kitchens and culinary offering at ERL’s other retirement villages and co-ordinates sales functions and launch parties for the company.
John has a grown-up daughter Kim, a young ‘Mini Me’ son called Eden (aged 6) and two lovely grandsons, Oscar and Isaac.
Life is very busy in the Crawley household, passionate foodies on a never-ending search for something new and exciting with a love of gardening, nature and family.
