After more than three long months of lockdown, which, to comply with the Government’s restrictions on people’s movements and business operations, saw the communal facilities in our retirement villages withdrawn, our Sales Offices closed and our Head Office staff working from home, we are delighted and relieved to be cautiously returning to some form of normality.
The restaurants, bars, gyms, hair/beauty salons and recreational areas at our two operational villages – Boughton Hall in Chester and The Red House in Ripon – are opening to owners living in those villages in early July, with strict hygiene, social distancing and other safety procedures in place. Normal service from the 24-hour in-house teams is also resuming, although continued additional support for anyone who still needs it will be ongoing for as long as necessary.
During the initial emergency, our staff on the ground made monumental efforts to keep owners safe and their wellbeing ensured by doing shopping, collecting prescriptions, delivering meals, keeping in constant contact, and providing much-needed entertainment in the form of books, DVDs, quizzes, newsletters and special treats. These measures, and the co-operation of the owners themselves, successfully kept Coronavirus out of the villages and we will do everything we can to make sure that continues until the situation improves.
The Sales Offices at Boughton Hall, The Red House, and Mount Battenhall in Worcester, our next village which is currently under construction, have all opened, and we are able to offer private viewings, by appointment only to allow safety precautions to be observed; virtual tours are also available. There is also an online chat facility that will connect you direct to a Sales Consultant, who will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Finally, our other staff are back at Head Office on a two-team rota. Whilst some of us have worked from home at one time or another, being forced to do so on a wider scale was a challenge that we embraced, and it proved much more successful than we anticipated. However, it’s good to be back – to get out of the house, have a change of scenery, and share the camaraderie of colleagues.
We sincerely hope that, if everyone continues to be careful and sensible, progress will continue to be made towards a much more “normal normal”. In the meantime, we will closely monitor the situation and follow the advice of the UK Government, Public Health England and the World Health Organisation. As an Approved Operator of ARCO (Associated Retirement Community Operators), we also benefit from sharing information and best practice advice with fellow members in the retirement sector, which helps guide our plans and decisions.
